Craft Lake City Video Profile

Sometimes I want to give Craft Lake City a big, crafty hug. They've been so awesome with me these last few months. They've recently started a video series with different crafters who have participated in a Craft Lake City event. I feel so lucky -they asked me to do a video profile for them, and you know what I did? I volunteered the hubby to make it. Sure, he's a way busy guy, but I just couldn't do something like this without my favorite movie-maker. He agreed. Keep in mind that the magic of movie-making is what makes me look good. (aka The Hubs is way awesome at what he does.) So proud of his work!

Oh yeah! It's Leap Day!

oh baby

I love getting opportunities to do small yummies for things like baby showers. A lovely (and VERY nice) co-worker is going to have a baby and we threw her a baby shower about a week and a half ago. She's having a girl (obvi) and I thought the roses would be perfect for her. I always like to make flavors that will appeal to most people, so I went with a vanilla cake with lemon curd filling, and vanilla buttercream. I stayed up late to make these the night before, but that's only because I have a weird obsessive nature about making them all look exactly the same. gosh how annoying.

(p.s. I wanted to share the recipe with you. I'll have to do that later today...)

A Lovely Evening

This is what weeknight early evenings look like these days, and after the crazy day I had yesterday I hope every night this week looks like this. The seasons are slowly starting to change and there was such a soft, pretty light coming through my windows. Matt obviously misses out on these moments. He's the most over-worked person I know. Now if only I could figure out a way to make my counters just a little bit bigger...This building is 100 years old and apparently people were much much smaller back then... oh the conundrums I face.

Beehive Bazaar

I really wanted to share this with you. I mean geez, I talked it up so much... Matt was a meanie and had school the night I went to set up, so I was on my own. It took almost two hours to set up how I wanted. It's difficult to plan what you're going to do when you don't even know what the venue looks like. Luckily for me I had a random wooden ledge right by my space to give the table some dimension. So I stacked stuff on there. Here is what was on the menu:

3 packs of Macarons: chocolate mint, gingerbread, and cranberry spice
Chocolate Bark: milk chocolate with toffee, and dark chocolate Mendiant (golden raisins, dried cherries, pistachios, and almonds-toasted, of course)
Hot Chocolate Sticks (so cute! perfect for winter yumminess): milk chocolate spice (cinnamon), and dark chocolate.
Boxes of truffles. Hand-rolled, super rich, and super fancy. It was hostess gift ready!
3 flavor packs of Marshmallows: chocolate, peppermint, and vanilla. Imagine those big fluffy pillows of sugar in your hot chocolate.

I can't even tell you how much work this was-in fact, my birthday was only three days before I had to set up and I spent the whole night packaging and tying ribbon. Frown. Getting older is so boring. I was pretty happy with the outcome though. I def think it could have had some improvements, but I really didn't know what I was doing for an event like this. Especially with food. You have to make it fresh! No making and storing weeks in advance like jewelry or something. It was SO MUCH WORK. I blame it on my inability to know when to stop. Once I get an idea I keep building and building on it, and then improving, and then improving on my improvements before the other improvements were even made. I'm basically just crazy that's all. I hope to be able to share more of my wacky brain in the upcoming months. It's a nice outlet for me.

I did pretty well. My goal was to sell out and I only had a few of each when I showed up to clear my stuff. It felt pretty good to see that table almost empty, and that meant less to lug home! Because seriously, if you think about it, if I don't sell leftovers, it totally goes to waste. I can't just save it for the next time. That's the one thing about working with food-potential for a lot of waste. Oh and one thing, if you see macarons in a package, DON'T POKE 'EM! They're delicate! It's sad to see them crushed.

ta-ta!

it's sort of a lie

Look at me being all healthy... Don't be deceived-I had to skip my 5 o'clock powdered raspberry donut fix today. And also, let's be honest. If I really drew pictures all day this blog would be way cooler.

And B.T.W., I saw a lady go in to a restroom stall today talking on her phone as if she was walking into the mall or something. Gross. I will never call her.

Note to self: toast those chewy almonds next time.

is it happy or merry?

Either way it was President's Day yesterday. And I celebrated by cleaning out my closet and four hours later going to sushi. Closets are time hoggers! Oh and yes, blogging is back on my list of things to pay attention to. I have so much to say! and I have so many pictures! I feel like I've been neglecting a puppy.

We feasted, and my phone didn't take a good picture. You get the idea.
